1. Effect on wear resistance
Improve hardness: Nitriding treatment forms a high-hardness nitride layer by allowing nitrogen atoms to penetrate into the surface of high-speed screws. This nitride layer can significantly increase the hardness of the screw, thereby enhancing its ability to resist wear.
Increased friction coefficient and wear resistance: The nitrided layer not only increases the hardness of the screw, but also increases the friction coefficient and wear resistance of its surface. This means that under the same working conditions, nitrided screws can resist wear more effectively and extend their service life.
Process selection: Different nitriding processes have different effects on improving screw hardness. For example, ion nitriding treatment can significantly increase the hardness of screws. The hardness value can reach about 1200HV, which is 2-3 times higher than screws without nitriding treatment. The hardness improvement effect of salt bath nitriding treatment on screws is relatively small, but it can also achieve a certain improvement effect.
2. Resistance to corrosive effects
Formation of protective layer: Nitriding treatment forms a nitride layer on the surface of high-speed screws. This nitride layer has high corrosion resistance. It can be used as a protective layer to effectively isolate the direct contact between the corrosive medium and the screw base, thereby slowing down or preventing the occurrence of corrosion.
Reduce the corrosion rate: Experimental studies have shown that the corrosion rate of screws after gas nitriding treatment in acid and alkali corrosive media is significantly reduced. This shows that the nitride layer significantly improves the corrosion resistance of screws.
Improve the overall corrosion resistance: In addition to directly improving the corrosion resistance of the screw surface, nitriding treatment may also indirectly improve the overall corrosion resistance of the screw by improving its organizational structure and performance. For example, by eliminating or reducing stress concentration inside the screw, the risk of corrosion cracks is reduced.
